Totalitarian/absolutist economy

The establishment, nourishment, protection and subsequent embellishment by any government of entities (corporate or otherwise) with monopolistic businesses and/or preferential treatment signal the rise of what I would term as totalitarian economy.

A totalitarian economy operates and behaves in manners not unlike a totalitarian or absolutist State. By its very nature, it feeds off compulsion and force, disallows and even destroys competition and gives no option nor choice to the consumers. It is beyond scrutiny as it is not answerable to any entity, let alone the very consumers which it aims to supply.

As  a result of the totalitarian and absolutist approach, this economy owes little, if at all, affinity to the concepts of fairness and justness.

It is like a black hole. It swallows everything which is in its way. It then grows bigger. And bigger.

The only difference is that, unlike the real black holes, a totalitarian economy  only grows bigger within the confines of the parameters defined by its own creators. Throw this economy into an unchartered territory, the real capitalist would just laugh its head off. With a mere snap of the capitalist’s finger, this totalitarian economy would be history.

That is not surprising. As a result of the constant nourishment, protection and forced embellishment of this economics absolutism/totalitarianism, such economy knows not how to compete. Its supernova-like explosive birth and subsequent growth deprives it of the ability to learn and to grow organically. This totally underdeveloped creature – underdeveloped in the sense that it is bereft of the elements which would ensure its vibrancy and survival in unchartered territories – has no defence mechanism nor the ability to adapt to changes within its surrounding, preferring to coil within the comfort of its mother’s lap.

A totalitarian/absolutist state compels its citizenry to submission by usages of physical force. It gives no option. Submit or be subjugated. Or even be incarcerated. And sometimes even killed.

A totalitarian/absolutist economy is not much less forceful or vicious. It gives consumers no choice nor option. You buy our cars. If not you have to pay substantially more for cars which are not ours. You use our supply. At our rates. If not, you would not have any other supply at all. Period.

Like a totalitarian state, totalitarian economy ensures great pains will befall its citizenry for any non-compliance or non-submission.

In this neo-totalitarianism, the consumers have no choice but to submit. If you do not buy our cars, you would  be financially incarcerated by the finance companies for the duration of the hire-purchase agreements which you enter into to purchase other cars. You would be subjected to financial tortures inflicted upon yourself in the form of duties and taxes.

A totalitarian/absolutist state would not care a hoot about her people’s welfare. It exists for one purpose, namely, to ensure its own survival and continuity, at any price. It does not care about the price to be paid because really, the price is not paid by itself but by the people it subjugates.

The same with a totalitarian/absolutist economy. It really does not care about the welfare of the consumers. Thus the power window will break down in 2 weeks. The service centres should be called torture centres. These so called “service centres” is an insult to the word “service”. They are manned by inefficient, arrogant, un-smiling and sometimes even rude robots in human skins and hair. Ask them a question, these creatures would frown. Ask another and they would sulk. Ask a third one and they spit in your drinks.

And it will continue to churn out mediocre after mediocre products based on “joint-collaborations”. Which is just another way to describe the proverbial (a new-age proverb) “cut and paste” job. It cuts out the original maker’s  emblem and paste its own emblem, for example.

A totalitarian state is beyond criticism. Because really, it does not care much about what people say about it. It doesn’t care because it controls the machinations of the state. It wields untold powers.

The same goes with a totalitarian economy. Thus a monopoly business can make hundreds of millions of losses and be compensated by its benevolent benefactors. It will then seek to make profits not by ensuring efficiency and addressing weaknesses but by increasing the price of its product, the supply of which it monopolises.

A totalitarian/absolutist economy grows up like a spoilt brat. It gets what it wants. Always. And when it doesn’t, it sulks and throws temper tantrums. The constant nourishment and absolute pampering takes away from it the ability to adapt to changes; to compete on a level playing field and to position itself in a strategic defence line if ever it is attacked by outside forces.

In addition, a totalitarian/absolutist economy is always told by its benefactors that it is the most beautiful; the best and the greatest. It thus grows with this “superiority complex”, believing itself to be among the giants. When exposed to  - or even the threat of exposing it to -competition, it wilts like a virgin nymph high on Ecstasy at the feet of a sweet talker.

If and when all the ladders and props are taken away, a totalitarian economy would fall like a house of cards.

A masterpiece account of what is going on. One point I wish to contradict however is that the consumers is the totalitarian economy while helpless, do really have a choice of abstaining from participation in the evil game albeit at some form of sacrifice.

What eludes my understanding is that today's population, not just Malaysia, seem to lack the togetherness and the will to make their stand known. Even with the many online tools, I have yet to see a major show of support using online means where one could relatively be safe from direct repressions. The many online petitions, facebook pages etc hardly reflect the necessary numbers to show significance. The silent majority remains silent at that.

When you see that trading is done, not by consent, but by compulsion - when you see that in order to produce, you need to obtain permission from men who produce nothing - when you see that money is flowing to those who deal, not in goods, but in favors - when you see that men get richer by graft and by pull than by work, and your laws don't protect you against them, but protect them against you - when you see corruption being rewarded and honesty becoming a self-sacrifice - you may know that your society is doomed. -Ayn Rand

Art,
Had an encounter with this guy who claims to be a friend of Ridhuan Tee.
He tells me that the problem with Christians for Muslims is that they do not recognise Muhammad as the last Prophet. Is that true?
The best part is that he tells me that Buddha is mentioned in Islam as one of the Prophets.
I was hoping either you or Haris can enlighten us.

Well Said!!! This is recommended reading in my FB. The very sad effects of
- giving public assets to few private hands AND
- GLC putting its high hands in every industries

are: it weaken if not destroyed SME, pushing skilled workers overseas due to lack of opportunities, widening the income disparity, and causing the REAL economy to die slowly but surely

Dear Art

Totally agreed with you. Wealth for a few while the rest suffered in poverty. Therefore, these have given rise to the "Orphans of Wealth", as sung by Don McLean.Released in 1970, before American Pie. Brilliant piece of song-writing.

Orphans of wealth

There is no time to discuss or debate
What is right, what is wrong for our people
Time has run out for all those who wait
With bent limbs and minds that are feeble

And the rain falls and blows through their window
And the snow falls and blows through their door
And the seasons revolve 'mid their sounds of starvation
When the tides rise, they cover the floor

And they come from the north
And they come from the south
And they come from the hills and they valleys
And they're migrants and farmers
And miners and humans
Our census neglected to tally

And the rain falls and blows through their window
And the snow falls and blows through their door
And the seasons revolve 'mid their sounds of starvation
When the tides rise, they cover the floor

And they're African, Mexican, Caucasian, Indian
Hungry and hopeless Americans
The orphans of wealth and of adequate health
Disowned by this nation they live in

And with weather-worn hands
On bread lines they stand
Yet but one more degradation
Yes, and they're treated like tramps
While we sell them food stamps
This thriving and prosperous nation

And the rain falls and blows through their window
And the snow falls and blows through their door
And the seasons revolve 'mid their sounds of starvation
When the tides rise, they cover the floor

And with roaches and rickets and rats in the thickets
Infested, diseased, and decaying
With rags and no shoes and skin sores that ooze
By the poisonous pools they are playing

In shacks of two rooms that are rotting wood tombs
With corpses breathing inside them
Yes, and we pity their plight as they call in the night
And we do all that we can do to hide them

And the rain falls and blows through their window
And the snow falls in white drifts that fold
And the tides rise with floods in the nursery

And a child is crying
He's hungry and cold
His life has been sold
His young face looks old
It's the face of America dying

KH Koh, Ayn Rand was a delusional, blinkered fake who resorted to social welfare in her old age. Unfortunately, she epitomises the mania that led to the supremacy of facism (capitalism and politics in bed together), now resulting in yet another cyclical world-wide disaster and sure to produce even more. Most of the "science" of economics is determined by facism, as a few brave Nobel laureates still warn us. Our reality does not consist of wealth alone, as we will all find out in a few decades at most.

None of this is meant to excuse the fatasy world that is Bolehland.

This is a brilliant piece. Did I say brilliant? I mean magnificent! Almost gave me an orgasm.

Kids, if your teacher gave you an assignment on the state of Malaysia in one page, this is how you should do it.

I think all these are connected to the Occupy Wall Street and Arab spring taking place all over the world.

More and more of the 99% realised that we can do something to stop the monopoly of wealth by the few like Kuok , Ananda, Vincent Tan benefitting from monopoly licenses to control gambling or banking or natural resources.

There is nothing to stop UMNO from all these beneficiaries of corrupt ex UMNO leaders who illegally gave monopolies to Chinese and Indians companies which rightfully belong to the States and bumis/Malays.

The ugly capitalists who rape the virgin jungles of Sabah and Sarawak for oil palm estates that deprived the orang utan their habitats in pursuit of obscene wealth.

The usage of native land titles by Chinese DAP members as exposed in Sabah to cut down the Borneo forests.

The Chinese Rehda developers association building for Chinese buyers on state land which belongs to the Malay Sultans must all be stopped in this totalitarian capitalist system before the 99% erupt from their patience.

Art,

Yes indeed...

Democracy: The state of affairs in which you consent to having your pocket picked, and elect the best man to do it.

The oppressed are allowed once every few years to decide which particular representatives of the oppressing class are to represent and repress them.

“You and I are not in The big club.

By the way, its the same big club they use to beat you over the head with all day long when they tell you what to believe.

All day long beating you over the head with their media telling you what to believe, what to think and what to buy.

The table has tilted folks. The game is rigged and nobody seems to notice. Nobody seems to care.

Good honest hard-working people... white collar, blue collar it doesnt matter what color shirt you have on.

Good honest hard-working people continue, these are people of modest means . . . continue to elect these rich ***** who dont give a ***** about you.

They dont give a ***** about you . . . they dont give a ***** about you. They dont care about you at all . . . at all . . . at all, and nobody seems to notice. Nobody seems to care. Thats what the owners count on.

The fact that Americans will probably remain willfully ignorant of the big red, white and blue dick thats being jammed up their ***** everyday, because the owners of this country know the truth.

Its called the American Dream, 'cause you have to be asleep to believe it . . .”

The American Dream, USA Inc. George Carlin – YouTube - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JChUO4TLjnY

Does it sound familiar in Bolehland...?

Next, to share this...

You have to be more specific art then just ramblings on democracy or totalitarian economy.

Better still if you can pinpoint the extremist persons or persons who cause this social injustice on the people of Malaysia.

For a start the Forbes richest list will give to you who has been accumulating billions while the masses queue for RM500 in the hot sun for 4 hours.

Are these extreme richest justified? Do they deserve their billions? Of course not.

Billions can only be gotten by taxing the millions of common people through utility like electricity IPPs, or water or sanitation like Indah Water.

The collection of money through gambling outlets like Toto, 4D etc.

The transfer of wealth through uncontrolled behavious like gambling in Genting.

The intake of sugar like Kuok. For every teh tarik, a few cents go to him through the UMNO government billion ringgit subsidy.

All these are done in the open but not analysed. These licenses can be controlled and is controlled in other smart country like China where there is no casino.

The evil capitlists from China had ran to Malaya and now the totalitarian economy that you only pandai talk about is run by the capitalist Chinese. Without solutions and without proper identifications of the cause you will not understand the effect.

Barking up the wrong trees like GLCs which are owned by people but run by extremists capitalist like Nazir and his friend Azman Mokhtar does not help.

Azman mokhtar has given a RM12 billion project to YTL the Chinese company in Johor. Why?

You blame GLC when it is AM you should finger.

It is quite simple to identify the culprit because everything is recorded in Govt. It only need awareness and analysis.

Overall, you wrote the right things and this sharing of information hopefully will galvanised the majority into recognising the faceless capitalists are not.

You can see it when Cardiff city won yesterday...hehe..

if ever there was an evil face that is one.

Why is UMNO giving RM600 million sugar subsidy? To whom is this amount given?

Did anybody ask for sugar subsidy?

Didnt the Health Ministry said Malaysian consumption is the highest in the world.

That diabetes is afflicting many Malaysians?

Let the market decide the price of sugar.

If the price rise then consumption will go down so will diabetes and obesity.

Obviously the evil UMNO capitalists is at work here.

Better use the 600 millions for diabetes treatment or distribute coupons to those who want diabetes through sugar.

UMNO Govt has given 32 billion diesel subsidy every year.

Your read that right Mr Art. 32 billions is different from petrol subsidy some other billions.

So I ask you. Are you using diesel engine car? Do you have family members using diesel cars?

Maybe you know of someone who use diesel.

I bet my bottom dollar that you dont know anyone who use diesel.

Yes diesel subsidy is for the Chinese capitalists! In this Bolehland, UMNO gives diesel subsidy so that the Chinese can buy million ringgit trawlers.

No one wonder our economy is going down the drain. Our business and chinese entrepeurs are coddled on subsidy to the tune of 32 billions.

The mind boggles. But all this is declared in the papers. It is that no one understand what is going on as they are too busy reading the gossip columns.

UP41 complained..about BM Dictionary
Every time I go to book fair I will look for the latest Kamus to see whether an electronic version of BM dictionary is available. But so far none I found except some overprice machine vendors trying to sell the machine with multiple dictionaries .

Even our government body - Dewan Bahasa & Pustaka (DBDP) has not done much to enable the people to learn BM cheaply and easily . May be DBDP is trying to be a profit organisation instead of its goals of improving the standard / usage of national language. Don't believe me ? Try to find a free BM e dictionary to download. And compare to find one for English / German / Chinese. Take a look at this stardict (Link here) website. From here you get links to download almost all kind of dictionary except BM. Don't the DBDP knows that if it is serious in promoting BM, it should make learning BM at no or low cost AND as easy as possible but they can't even produce a BM dictionary in electronic form. Or it can but you must buy it from the machine vendors.

Sad but true!!!

UMNO should be promoting BM. The RM300 million vouchers subsidy should be used to give away free BM dictionary.

The students dont want it. They want the cash to top up mobile phones.

Who thought of this subsidy which no one ask for?

Kinokuniya is cashing in RM80 k per day of this voucher.! Did Kinokuniya ask for this subsidy?

Or MPH belonging to Vincent Tan..hah that name again. Is VT an UMNO member? hmmmm honourary one?

Hell if an Indian can be the President of UMNO... impossible is nothing!

Wah Govt so rich..subsidy here subsidy there..free laptop, free books.. free sugar..free cervix injextion...
