The Beauty and the Mullah

As it is video week, allow me to continue with the trend.

I was forwarded the video you are about to watch (it is a must watch) by Dato' Z aka Bernard of the Zorro-unmasked fame. Thank you to him for doing so.

There is no sex in the video. And so, you do not need to wear a jubah, green or otherwise, while watching it.

I am one of those who, like the beautiful actress in the video, think that there are many other things which a Mullah could do to make this world a better place. If, for example, all those cheap hotel raiders could just go to Chow Kit and show some love to some, if not all, the street and stateless children out there, instead of tom-peeping at couples at night, the world would a much better place to live in.

But of course, those are boring things to do. Who would want to go to Chow Kit and talk to faceless street children. That is a job for people who have got nothing better to do, like Dr Hartini and her Rumah Nursalam.

The inevitable focus then is of course on how women should behave; how women should wear the tudung; how Muslims should not drink alcohol, should not celebrate Christmas or wear like Santa, should not wear Manchester United jersey; how the Muslims should not celebrate Valentine's Day and whatever. Oh, I forgot. The focus is also on how an underage gal could be married off although she's could not yet have a driving license.

The actress in the following video was not going to have none of the Mullah's warped view of what Islam is and should be. She stood her ground and she fought to be heard.

And oh my God, wasn't she heard!

God bless her.

Gorgeous, bold and wouldn't take the crap from some Mullah who didn't even bother to watch the video or know of her before condemning her. No different from some of the monkeys we have here. If only more of our Malaysian Muslim women were as bold and immune to bullshit as she is. Of course it won't hurt to have them looking like her too! Woot!

My utmost respect to her, who happen to be pretty, this question at the back of my mind, what kind of up-bringing form her personality?

The religion play a part too, right? The glory of the religion shine through her.

As a none muslim, what she did (according to what she just said) gain my respect to the religion she believe in, more than those who preach (in short, according to her, hypocritically).

Action always spoke louder than talking.

I don't understand why mullah/s so obsess with women's attire/appearance and why they like to control other ppl 's life. Anyway, it's bold of her bcos extremism is a real threat in Pakistan. The Government now having hands full dealing with Taliban.

Hoi hoi bohhot achaa hey.

That's a lifetime of frustrations being vented out...poor mulla. Suddenly I'm a fan of Veena. Halfway through the interview, the conversation between her and the mulla sounded like a bad marriage...both talking simultaneously and no one listening.

Oih... the mulla must be feeling like a mule-laa after being made one on national tv,especially the bit where he claimed he did not watch the video but many pakistanis have and said she was a disgrace...my my....

Btw, she is pretty, but in Pakistan/India, think she's just above average lah...

BRAVO, VEENA MALIK, BRAVO!! If only there were more Muslim women like Veena who will stand up for the truth and refuse to take the bullying, holier-than-thou, self-righteous arrogance of people who think they have the right to judge others. BRAVO, VEENA, BRAVO!!

RESPECT! Veena Malik! RESPECT!

The mullah appearance not helping here. He looked like a f*** up hippie on grass.

Veena Malik is indeed a brave woman and I wish there are plenty more of muslim women like her. Throughout history, muslim women have been looked down and trodden upon by the hypocrites mullahs who interpret islam for their own sick benefits.

Damn, don't tell me that beauty is more threatening than extremism.I am a bit confused about the tudung thingy. In Iran, wearing headscarf is compulsory but in Turkey, it is banned, so who is right?. Btw, i can't find the verse that say hair is aurat in Quran, can somebody enlightening us!

Does anyone remember the RELA "volunteer" accompanying the moral police who so "volunteered" eagerly and videoed a poor woman - just arrested at a hotel - peeing, after preventing her from having privacy? Now, I just wonder about that "evidence". Are the higher authorities still "looking into it"?

no muslim woman in malaysia dare to talk to a mullah or mufti like Veena did.

Even outspoken Marina Mahathir only dares to rant on her blog....lashing out at those religious freaks.

so sad.....

reading the comments, one common question is why arent malaysian muslim women speaking out -- i thought the sisters in islam are always speaking out but unfortunately they never get the recognition they deserve in this country.

I am the kind that smile over a movie when everyone else is crying, but I was tearing watching this. Her righteous anger is so touching... Let's hope that there are more such people in this broken world, who are able to carry the spirit of the grand old religion into the modern world.

Pakistan is in big trouble, not just talking about women being marginalized, the country's experiment with islamist taliban has gone awry,it is like chicken coming back home to roost, now it it busy tackling internal extremist problem. I just saw a documentary of young children being indoctrinated to become suicide bombers, it truly scary.

As always you are so artful in articulating the complex to become rather the mundane. That would surely put our Mullahs out of work if you ask them to 'walk the streets' pun intended, to clean up the town! It's easier to sit on one's pedestal or is it derrière to cast punishment like God on sinners you know than to walk alongside and help them onto a path of rightousness.
Also God must be rather cruel to create beautiful women only to be scorned and branded sluts and whores by these Mullahs who supposedly are doing God's will. Is God cursing his own creation or is man, the Mullahs that is, cursing God's creation, huh?

Pakistan is a failed state by just about any metric you care to use. It's problems are numerous and deep-rooted. This small-minded mullah is just a symptom of that.
Unfortunately, it does not have the human resources nor the natural resouces to solve them.
My only fear is that Malaysia is going to slide into a similar situation.

What is this mullah thing? are they God or what? Try ask them to walk above the ground, say at least 1 cm,and see if they can do it.

God loves but never judges.

A man without compassion, fundamentally speaking, is not even a human.

God judges but man want to judge, one day everybody has to face the judgement day, including the Mullahs.Ask the mullahs to comment on corruption or extremists who kill others in the name of religion!!..that more relevant

Beauty does not kill, but 'warped ideology' sometimes caused people to kill,.. which is more dangerous??, beauty or fundamentalism. I hv seen the movie 'beauty and the beast',there a chance they in love, but this mullah one will not gel.

I have a met a gracious lady in her 50s while shopping and she spoke to my messr and we advise her on the Chinese porcelain she intended to buy as she had asked us at what price would be the right bargain to the Chinese vendor from Mainland. But i told her the design might not be suitable for a muslim, she said it was fine and they are not 'like that' ( as opposed to Harrusani's kind of thoughts). She bought it and told us later we have helped her secure a decent price, a fraction of what she bought almost the same two days from another stall, she instantly became our friend, and later introduced her son and daughter in law to us and even invited us to Pakistan to visit her. I made a remark that she resembled Benazir Bhutto, and her son replied that she was especially a close of her mother( then before Benazir's demise). She bade us goodbye and pestered us to come Pakistan and kissed the Pakistan way on my Messr's cheek. Wonder she was one among those who perished in the terrorism attack that killed Benazir Bhutto, hope not.

We were touched by such people who are Muslims and have not an inch of suspicion of people from another race(not their kind) and of not their religion too. Thinking back, these are the lovely people who has more love and respect for themselves and others.

This beauty is trivia matter, why don't the mullahs speak up against suicide bombers or at least debunk the misconception of "heavenly reward".A documentary by National GEOGraphic shows young boys being kidnapped by Talibans and then brainwashed them to become suicide bombers, they tell the boys that they can go to heaven when they press the 'button'
